I couldn't agree more with the other reviews. Operation is glacially slow on this thing. My three-year-old RCA was a far faster machine - I only replaced it because it no longer worked well with the new DirecTV local channels. RCA dropped the ball big-time on this new one. Are the "lesser" models this slow? I'm seriously considering killing this thing.
My first one had to get sent back for warranty - it would simply lock up, usually while trying to run a timer for recording. I missed many shows due to this. Also, occasionally the unit would just reset itself in the middle of doing something, and then have to reload the entire guide.
Why doesn't the year of the show stay in the guide info once it is fully-loaded? This is stupid - I like having the year, but it disappears once the guide completes loading. Not even movies list a date in the description - I hate that.
Unless you gotta have component output (the only reason I have kept mine - waiting until someone else comes out with component, or maybe an HDTV box), avoid this unit.

This unit is a farce! STAY AWAY! I am throwing it out and buying a 5 year old unit.
It takes literally 30 - 45 seconds to get program information in the guide mode. Also, when you select the movie guide, you get to guess what day, and time it is on, could be a channel you don't get for a time at least 10 days in the future- and it takes about a minute to get that infomation.
I physically age using this unit - DON'T BUY!

Please give me an upgrade to fix the program guide SLOWWWWWNESS paging up an down.
When I first bought a DTC-100, I was upset at how slow the program guide was. It took more than a 1/3 of a second to display the next page. However, an upgrade was eventually sent out and it is now reasonably fast.
The DRD485RG takes seconds to scroll. Please give me an upgrade before I throw this unit through RCA's corporate windows.
It is a GREAT receiver in concept. I love the improvements in general look and feel and want to upgrade all of my older receivers to this model but will NOT until the guide speed issue is resolved.

I own this product. I would think twice about buying this.
The guide system is VERY SLOW. I feel like throwing the remote it's so slow. however the advanced guide (APG) navigation works well.
You can scroll days into the guide system with ease, but again scrolling the normal guide and menus is a NIGHTMARE !!
The component video output gives you a slight improvement over s-video.
Speaking to tech support at non-800 numbers at DTV (800#`s tech support at both RCA and DTV is a total joke!) this unit is fully upgradeable via DTV unlike the previous generation which is only upgradeable via rca.
To sum it up, you get the extras with this box but you loose speed, navigation is nothing like the 480`s, this is a nightmare unless DTV improves it with a software upgrade.
